At Griffeth Vision, our services go far beyond caring for your vision. We also offer various facial plastic surgery and other cosmetic options to help your eyes and the rest of your face look its best. Fittingly, we offer eyelid surgery, clinically known as blepharoplasty, to make your eyes look as good on the outside as they work on the inside.
Why eyelid surgery? As we age, our eyelids become baggy and sag. Our skin loses its elasticity and the eyelids start to droop. Sometimes, the upper lid can droop far enough to impact your vision. Another problem is that the skin around our eyes is the thinnest on the entire body, so as it loses its elasticity, lines, wrinkles, and bags follow.
With blepharoplasty, the goal is to return the eyelids to the way they looked before all that sagging began. You can opt for just upper or lower eyelid surgery, but most patients choose to have both eyelids improved at the same time.
In the surgery, Dr. Griffeth makes incisions in locations that will not be visible to others. On the upper lid, the incision is made in the natural crease of the eyelid. On the bottom lid it is made either in the corner of the eye or on the inside of the lid. Excess skin is trimmed and underlying muscles are tightened to remove the looseness caused by sagging skin. Also, fat is repositioned, especially on the bottom eyelid. Why is fat not removed? If there is excess fat, some will be removed, but removing too much fat can give the patient a gaunt, unnatural look.
Recovery from eyelid surgery is relatively easy. Most patients can return to work after about a week, and resume all of their former activities within three to four weeks.
So, don’t you think it’s about time to give your eyes the attention they deserve? Call us and let’s talk about eyelid surgery.
